UGANDA The work of Comboni Samaritans, Gulu. Visiting Atoo Alice, 48, who has AIDS and suffers from depression. She lives with her 52-year-old sister Ventorina Ayo who is her primary care giver, and with her husband Michael. Michael and Ventorina are very loving and slo look after Alice's two children, Geoffrey and Enice, both of whom are epileptic. Monrovia, Liberia - September 19, 2007: Children selling snack food on the beach in the the fishing community of West Point in the Liberian capital of Monrovia which is one of the poorest slums in West Africa and suffers from overcrowding, lack of facilities, unemployment and garbage. The fishing industry is an important source of employment and food for Liberians and is increasingly under threat by better equipped and unregulated foreign vessels over fishing in its unprotected waters.

Joshua does not suffer from helminth infections but does suffer from hayfever. Joshua is one of the many children in Gahna participating in a study by Dr. Daniel Boakye at the University of Ghana attempting to better understand the connection between high rates of helminth infections and protection from allergies and asthma.

Zadok Agbeko is a poor child from the small village of Akramaman who walks 5km every day to the Ayikai Doblo public primary school with his older brothers. Zadok, along with many of the children in his socio economic background suffers from helminth infections and have tested negative for allergies. Zadok is one of the many children in Gahna participating in a study by Dr. Daniel Boakye at the University of Ghana attempting to better understand the connection between high rates of helminth infections and protection from allergies and asthma.
